Five Activities Seniors Can Enjoy in the Lehigh Valley This Spring

Our mission at Maximum Care will always be to provide exceptional home care for your aging loved one. That said, occasionally getting out of the home and reintegrating into the outside world is important to any senior’s physical and mental health.

Provided your loved one is physically capable of it, the start of spring is the perfect opportunity to get some fresh air, socialize, and interact with the world at large. With the dangers of winter weather behind us, seniors should feel encouraged to get outside and engage in new activities. Here are five suggestions for activities in the Lehigh Valley this spring that seniors can enjoy.

Lehigh University Philharmonic: Concerto Marathon (Bethlehem)  Friday, April 26th & Saturday, April 27th

This weekend, transport yourself into the serene world of classical music with the Lehigh University Philharmonic. On Friday and Saturday night at Lehigh’s Baker Hall in Bethlehem, Lehigh students play movements from well-known concertos, including Jean Sibelius’s timeless Symphony No. 2. Tickets for seniors are just $10 and can be purchased here.

Spring Wine and Spirits Festival (Macungie)  Sunday, May 5th

Toast the start of spring at Bear Creek Mountain Resort’s annual Spring Wine and Spirits Festival. Treat your loved one to a relaxing afternoon of wine tasting and food, provided by dozens of local venders. As a bonus, celebrity chef Robert Irvine (Food Network’s Restaurant: Impossible) will be in attendance to offer samples and sign bottles of his signature spirits. Tickets start at $40 online, with an available $75 VIP package that will grant you early access, preferred parking, and additional VIP goodies.

116th Bethlehem Bach Festival (Bethlehem)  First Weekend: Friday, May 10th & Saturday, May 11th  Second Weekend: Friday, May 17th & Saturday, May 18th

For more classical entertainment, the Bethlehem Bach Choir presents the 116th Bethlehem Bach Festival. The festival celebrates the music of J.S. Bach and other composers, as well as the connections we make while hearing it. Recorder player Vincent Lauzer is this year’s Festival Artist-In-Residence, and you can purchase tickets for the festival’s various events here.

Mayfair Festival of the Arts (Allentown)  Friday, May 24th – Sunday, May 26th

Returning to Cedar Crest College in Allentown for a sixth straight year, the Lehigh Valley’s long-running Mayfair Festival is a welcome alternative for those who enjoy Musikfest’s sprawling vendor displays but struggle in those muggy, densely populated crowds. Over 30 local artist vendors and nearly a dozen food stands have been assembled for the weekend, and headliner acts include popular regional cover bands such as The Large Flowerheads, Go Go Gadget, and UUU. Seniors should exercise the necessary precautions for navigating modern crowds, though the festival is running at full capacity again after being cancelled due to COVID in 2020 and 2021 and requiring masks in 2022.

A Day at the Park (Bethlehem)

Oftentimes, seniors don’t need specific plans; just going outdoors for a relaxing, itinerary-free day in the park will get the job done. This spring, check out one of Bethlehem’s hidden gems, the Upper Saucon Township Community Park. Nestled between Desales University and Southern Lehigh High School, this pleasant park offers acres of soccer fields, walking trails, playgrounds, and more. It also serves as an entry point for the Saucon Rail Trail, a 10-mile flat walking and biking trail that connects Hellertown and Coopersburg.

They’ll work closely with you to devise an individualized care plan that will provide proper peace of mind and quality care for your loved one.
